Kirsten, I tried to find your email to answer your questions about the photo editing, but alas I don't think I have it! Anyway, the faded edges in pictures you can get by putting the hood on your lens when shooting, or the more dramatic ones (like the last one of my pics)is done through using an "edge burn" action on Photoshop.
